Understanding Back Pain Treatments
Back pain is one of the most common complaints of adults.
Fortunately, majority of these problems can be treated and resolved without
several weeks. On the downside, back pain is a frustrating medical problem for
both doctors and patients. This is because back pains could be caused by many
factors and varies from one patient to the next. For this reason, it is
important that the cause of a back pain is understood to arrive at a proper
back pain treatment.
Since almost any adult can experience back pains throughout
their lifetime, some can be relieved through hot or cold compress, pain
relievers or by simply reducing the strain on their spines. However, if these
simple treatments do not work, you have to seek immediate medical attention to
know the most appropriate back pain treatment, depending on your symptoms and
duration of the back pain.
While back pains can occur when stress is given to the back,
it can be relieved by simple back pain treatments. However, if the pain
persists after several days or awakens you during sleep, you have to go back
and consult with your doctor for new evaluation and back pain treatment. Other
symptoms that need to be taken seriously include chills, sweats, fever,
symptoms of infections, changes on bladder and bowel movements or any other
unusual symptoms.
Self-Care and Medical Back Pain Treatments
After your medical consultation, most experts recommend on
resuming to daily activities as soon as possible. However, you now have to take
extra precautions on performing physical activities.
Self-care back pain treatments can be used for prevention
and rehabilitation. Experts recommend lying on your back and placing a pillow
between the knees to give comfort during sleep. If you have been diagnosed with
acute back pains, simple stretching can help you with your problem. However,
for chronic back pains, specific back exercises may be recommended to help
resume daily activities.
Over-the-counter medicine can be a great back pain treatment
to reduce pain. You can buy Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, hot or cold treatments
and extensive bed rests can be used even without medical supervision. However,
if you have allergic reactions to over-the-counter drugs, make sure to ask your
doctor before taking any medicine.
If these home care treatments do not relieve the pain, you
should consult your doctor for other back pain treatment, particularly those
that have been proven to work. These include Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
medications, COX-2 inhibitors, Acetaminophen, muscle relaxants, opioid analgesics
or steroids. However, your doctor should decide which back pain treatment is
appropriate for your condition, depending on medical history, drug
interactions, allergies and other medical concerns.
